THERE BEFORE TIME

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.”

John 1:1–2

Our text today is a clear reminder of the superiority of the word. As an African, when something or someone existed before you, there is a natural honor and respect we attach to it. I mean, i have cousins just two years older that I call “Auntie” simly because they are older. The belief is that if they were here before you, there are experiences and wisdom that they are somehow privy to that you are not and that makes them wiser than you. And that is not exactly wrong. I know for a fact that there are things about the family that I know that my younger siblings don’t. So I guide them often on how to handle some matters arising within the extended family.

The word existed before you and I, It was there at the begining. Before trees, before the sky, before the earth, before plants, before technology, before everything, the Word existed. It wasn’t there as a spectator or observer it was the very ingredient used in creating all things. The word preceeded all things and the word made everything. I think that is enough reason to honour the word, don’t you?

There is nothing the word has not seen, experienced, accounted for or encountered. That means there is nothing that can supersede the authority of the Word. The Bible says heaven and earth will pass away, but the Word will remain. Why? Because heaven and earth were created by the Word. Everything we see is held together by the Word of God. The moment the Word is taken away, everything that exists, including you and I, will cease to exist.

That is why no matter what was said, who said it, where it was said, or how passionately it was declared, it cannot override the Word of God.

That in itself is a wonder. How amazing is it that we have been given such an amazing gift as the precious as the scriptures but more so, the living word of God, who thought it not roberry to lay down His life and now dwells within us. Since the word was before all things might I suggest that you conyinually keep it before all things in your life also and as you do, you will continue to live in the wonders of the living God.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your Word. Help me to honour Your Word above every situation, every feeling, and every opinion. Teach me to trust the authority of Your Word and to submit completely to what You have spoken. In Jesus’ name, amen.
