CREATIVE WONDER

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light.”

Genesis 1:1–3

Genesis 1 paints a picture of what the beginning looked like. Darkness covered the face of the deep. There was no form. There was no shape. Nothing had been created yet. The Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

And from yesterday’s study, we already know that the Word was there. The Word was already existing before time began. So we see God in His fullness already existing. The Spirit was hovering. The Word was present. The Holy Spirit was hovering over the face of the deep. He was brooding. He was incubating. He was preparing the atmosphere.

When it was time to create something, when it was time to bring form out of formlessness, light out of darkness, and structure out of nothing, the Word stepped in. The Bible says, “And God said.” God used the Word.

Even God Himself uses the Word. He said, “Let there be,” and it became. The Word had enough potency from the beginning to create something out of nothing. Everything we see today, the trees, the birds, the fishes, and even the mosquitoes we do not like, were created by the Word.

This may not be news to you, but pause and think about it. If the Word can create something out of nothing, what can’t the Word create in you? You are not nothing. You are already something. You already carry the nature of God. You are already His beloved. He has already given His Son to die for you. He already has something to work with.

Again, if the Word could create something where there was nothing to work with, what can the Word do with a life that is already in the hands of God?

We need to marvel when we think about the Word of God. We need to sit with the wonder of how powerful it is. The Word can take your life and mould it into something so beautiful that when you look back, you may not even recognise what God brought out of it.

Beloved, the Word has creative power. Not only for creation in the beginning, but for creation right now. The Word is still creating. Even now, as we speak, the Word is still creating. God can take a life that has been categorised as nothing before men and turn it into something glorious. That’s creative power.

So today, do not just read the Word casually. Receive it as creative power. Let it create light where there has been darkness. Let it create order where there has been confusion. Let it create life where things have seemed dry. If God could speak into nothing and bring forth creation, then He can speak into your life and bring forth beauty, purpose, strength, and glory.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for the creative power of Your Word. Let Your Word create light, order, strength, and life in me. Speak into every empty, dark, and formless area of my life, and bring forth Your purpose and glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.
