FAITH COMES BY THE WORD

“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

Romans 10:17

As we talk about the wonders that the Word of God produces, one of them is faith. You might be wondering, “But a believer already has faith. They gave their life to Christ, so they must already have a level of faith.” And you will not be wrong. But that was enough faith to believe. Enough faith to receive Jesus. Enough faith to accept the Word. But that faith is not supposed to remain at that level. It is supposed to grow.

The faith you received at salvation becomes the foundation upon which more faith is built.

So now, you begin to build that faith by exposing yourself to the Word of God. You build it by hearing the Word, studying the Word, meditating on the Word, and allowing the Word to reveal Jesus to you again and again.

When you listen to the Word of God, you begin to see who Jesus is. You begin to understand your identity in Christ. You begin to know the power made available to you as a believer. You begin to see the authority that you carry. And as this revelation grows, it builds confidence and courage on the inside of you. It expels fear and causes you to live a life of faith.

Many times, we underestimate how important it is for faith to be built in our hearts. But the truth is, strong faith becomes an anchor and a cushion when the issues of life arise.

Isn’t it wondrous that coming in contact with the Word of God is coming in contact with God Himself? And when you come in contact with God, He takes the fearful, broken, timid person and begins to make them bold as a lion. He builds a person who can say to a mountain, “Be removed and be cast into the sea,” and doubt nothing. That is what the Word does.

The Word builds faith. It grows and strengthens faith. The Word produces a kind of courage that fear cannot easily overthrow.

So today, expose your heart to the Word. Hear it again. Read it again. Meditate on it again. Let the Word keep building faith in you until your heart becomes strong enough to stand, even in difficult seasons.

Prayer:

Father, thank You because Your Word builds faith in me. As I hear, study, and meditate on Your Word, let faith rise in my heart. Strengthen me, establish me, and make me bold in You. Let fear lose its hold over me as my faith grows stronger. In Jesus’ name, amen.
