“The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed.”
Matthew8:8
In my head, I imagine that after Jesus offered to come to his house the centurion was looking at Jesus like, “Come to my house? Me? A centurion? The Son of God wants to come under my roof? No, Lord. I am not worthy.”
You see, authority recognises authority.
The centurion had authority, so he knew what authority looked like. He said, “I am a man under authority. I say to one, go, and he goes. I say to another, come, and he comes.”
In other words, “Jesus, I understand how authority works. You do not need to physically come to my house. Just send Your Word on assignment.”
He recognised that Jesus had authority over the paralysis and the torment that his servant was suffering. He knew sickness had to obey Jesus. He knew distance was not a barrier. He knew the Word carried the authority of the One who spoke it.
So he said, “Only speak a word.”
Beloved, Jesus has authority over everything. Remember what we said before: the Word precedes everything, so everything must obey it. The Word created everything, so everything must respond to it.
The Living Word is above everything.
At the mention of His name, every knee must bow. He is seated far above all principality, power, might, dominion, and every name that is named. The fullness of the Godhead dwells in Him.
So what would your life look like if you trusted the Word like the centurion did?
What would it look like to recklessly trust the potency of the Word simply because it is the Word?
The Bible says that Jesus told the centurion, “Go your way; and as you have believed, so let it be done for you.” And his servant was healed that same hour.
Just one word. That is all it took.
So today, receive the Word with faith. Trust the authority behind the Word.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the authority and power in Your Word. Help me to trust Your Word like the centurion did. Teach me to believe that one word from You is enough to heal, deliver, restore, and transform my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
