“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom…”
Colossians 3:16
There are key things we need to underline in this text.
The first one is dwell.
Dwell does not mean visit. It means the Word has found a place in your heart. It means your heart has become a conducive atmosphere for the Word to stay. The Word should not come into your heart like a visitor who has boundaries and limited welcome time” No. Your heart should be a familiar place for the Word. A place the Word has access to. A can comfortably return to again and again.
The second word is richly.”
Not a little bit. The Word should not have a small corner in your heart. It should not have a one-room apartment, if I can say it like that. It should not be given a tiny space where it is present, but limited. Someone can live with you, but still have restricted access. Like a squatter. That is not how the Word should dwell in us. The Word should dwell richly.
That means the Word should have freedom in you. The Word should have access. The Word should overflow. It should fill your heart so much that, like a cup filled with water, it begins to spill over.
You should not always be searching and struggling to find the Word. The Word should be so present in you that it begins to shape your thoughts, your speech, your reactions, your decisions, your relationships, and your worship.
Let the Word abound. Let it fill every space.
Then the scripture says, “in all wisdom.”
As you expose yourself to the Word, wisdom begins to grow in you. The application of the word also requires wisdom. That wisdom will influence your decisions and your relationship with others
Beloved, let the word dwell in you richly, starting today.
Shalom
