God Is Near

“The LORD is near to all who call upon Him,
To all who call upon Him in truth.”

Psalm 145:18 NKJV

There have been seasons in my life when I felt like God was far away. Like very far. I felt like He was inaccessible, as if He were somewhere else, attending to other people’s prayers, while I struggled to reach Him. I felt this way because I could not feel His presence in the situation I was facing.

And many of us know this feeling. When we are praying, and heaven seems silent, we ask, “Where is God?” It can feel like He is far, like He is not listening, like He is absent.

But God has sent this Scripture as encouragement. God is not near sometimes. He is near always. If you belong to Him, if you call upon Him, He is right there with you.

Ever Present

How can we be sure of this? When Jesus left the earth, He promised another Comforter who would abide with us forever. We are living in the reality of Emmanuel, God with us. He did not leave. He did not move away. He lives inside of you. So how can He now be far?

Sometimes we calculate closeness based on feelings. But feelings are not reliable indicators of God’s presence. The Word is. God said He would never leave you nor forsake you, and He meant it. He said when you go through deep waters, He will be with you.

If you feel far, first examine your fellowship with Him. Distance often grows where communication has weakened. But if your prayer life is consistent and you still feel distant, then you must anchor yourself in the truth of scripture. Remind your soul of what God has already said.

God is not far. He is near. He is present. He is faithful.

Prayer

Father, I thank You that You are near to me. Even when I cannot feel You, I know You have not left me. You have not forsaken me. Help me trust Your Word above my feelings. Open my eyes to the truth of Your presence in this season. Draw me into deeper fellowship with You, and help me remain consistent with You. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
