‘ The Lord does not delay and is not tardy or slow about what He promises, according to some people’s conception of slowness, but He is long-suffering (extraordinarily patient) toward you, not desiring that any should perish, but that all should turn to repentance.’
2 Peter 3:9
In our text today, God was encouraging us that Jesus will return. The fact that it’s been centuries doesn’t mean that He is delaying. Although this is the primary context of this verse, this scripture also applies to every promise He has made to you and every believer on the earth. He is not slow concerning His promises.
Beloved, I hope you know that God does not take pleasure in “delaying” what He has promised you? If He said He will cause you to have a global impact and your voice will be heard in every nation, and it did not happen in 2024, or 2025, or even 2026, God is not sitting in heaven unaware that you are hoping and trusting in Him.
It’s His Plan Anyway
God is not delaying the fulfilment of a plan that He Himself created by His own will and His own accord for your life, a plan He created of His own pleasure just for the fun of it or because you sinned years ago and He wants to punish you. God does not have time for petty things like that.
He is patient because He is allowing you to come into the fullness of who you need to become to access the promise He has already prepared for you. And the truth is, when you finally do become, you will not even realize that you have become. You will still feel like you are not there yet. But God has spent time working processes in you, developing capacities in you that you did not even know you had.
Till You’re Ready
Ironically, the season where you feel the most ready is often the season where you are not ready at all. And when you are actually ready, you will feel the most unprepared.
God is not delighting in delay. He is not marking time and saying, “Let me see how long she can hold out.” No. God is working out processes. He is not slack concerning His promise. He is patient. There is an appointed time for that promise, and He is patient enough to see that word come to pass in your life.
So instead of complaining, declare over yourself.
Confession
“I am patient.
I will go with God’s timing.
I will not rush ahead of God.
I will not drag my feet behind the season He has prepared for me.
I will not force myself out of a process He put me in to develop me.
I will walk with the times and the seasons of God concerning my life.
In Jesus’ name, amen.”
Shalom
