YOU CAN’T FAKE COURAGE

  • DAY 335
  • FEAR FILE: THE SEVEN SONS OF SCEVA
  • SCRIPTURES: ACTS 19:11

“Now God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul, so that even handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them. Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists took it upon themselves to call the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, “We exorcise you by the Jesus whom Paul preaches.” Also there were seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, who did so. And the evil spirit answered and said, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?” Then the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, overpowered them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.”

Acts‬ ‭19‬:‭11‬-‭16‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

If this biblical account was a movie, it would be a comedy, a very funny one at that. Picture it with me: the depiction of the epic beating these men received. They thought that it was easy to get results as long as they said what Paul said. They never took time to ask what was sponsoring the unusual miracles they were witnessing in the life of Paul.

All the miracles Paul was doing were affecting their reputation as exorcists and people could tell that they didn’t have the power. To remain relevant, they decided to copy the mannerisms and words of Paul without attaining the devotion and anointing of Paul and it worked for a while. But as we say in Nigeria, “every day for the thief, one day for the owner.” And on this day, they had to defend what they proclaimed and couldn’t.

Get Yours

Beloved, you can’t succeed for long copying another person’s revelation, you have to get yours. What makes another person audacious is not printed in papers or broadcasted on social media, it is secret. The courage that drives out fear is not copied, you can’t fake it to make it, you must build it in secret, on your knees, and in the word. There is no other way.

It’s the truth that you know that will set you free. On the journey of faith, there is no room for fakers. You either know God or you don’t. Either you have faith or you don’t. You trust God or you don’t. When fear comes knocking on the door of your heart, my courage won’t save you, only yours will. So start building your courage from today.

Spend time in the Word, and pray, both in the Holy Ghost and in your understanding. Trust God with ALL your heart and live for Him. It may not happen in a day, it will require consistency and devotion but you are courageous enough for that. May the Lord empower you to be able to do what is necessary to build courage within yourself. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Shalom.
