“Let God be true and every man a liar.”
Romans 3:4
Paul wrote to the Roman church addressing critical issues pertaining to their faith, and in this chapter, he continues that discuss. Talking about the advantages of jews as the ones who received the promise through circumcision and it is in this context that he makes the statement we quoted above. You see, some verses, even though they belong to a broader conversation, can stand alone, and this is one of them.
To let God be true means that you deliberately hold His word as truth, and by default, every other decree, every other voice, every other report or point of view becomes a lie. If God is true, then everything else that contradicts Him is automatically a lie.
God is true
That means your situation before God is a lie.
Your opinion before God is a lie.
The medical test result that came back and sounded final is a lie.
The anxiety you’re feeling is a lie.
The uncertainty you feel about the future is a lie.
Because all of those things are contrary to the word and the decree of God.
And if God is true, and you allow Him to be true in your life, then everything else pales in comparison. It cannot even hold a candle to God’s word. Every thing else becomes a liar. That means you cannot live in fear. Because every word God has spoken to you is true. Every promise He has made concerning you is true. And it will come to pass exactly the way He said it would.
If He says He is with you, then He is with you.
If He says He will deliver you, then He will deliver you.
If He says He will uphold you, then He will uphold you.
If He says He will promote you, then He will surely promote you.
So speak to your heart.
If you have seen something that is causing you to doubt the truth of God’s word, speak to your heart and say, “Let God be true.”
If you have seen something that is challenging what you believe about God’s nature, speak to your heart and say, “Let God be true.”
There are situations in my own life where I am saying to my heart, “Let God be true.” I don’t have another option. Everything else is a liar.
Prayer
“Lord, You are true in my life. I exalt You above every other thing. You are true. I declare every other report a lie, from now and forever. Your word is true. Your decree over my life is true. And Your word stands forever in my life.”
