IDENTITY

  • DAY 99
  • Faith File: THE COURAGE OF JESUS
  • Scripture

So we’ve said this once, we’ve said it a thousand times, identity is important for your courage, confidence, and faith. As we talk about the courage of Jesus, we cannot neglect or jump over the fact that He knew who He was, where He came from, and what He was on earth to accomplish. The interesting thing about knowledge is that it finds expression. You can tell a man who is sure of his identity by the way he carries himself and what he says of himself and we see the same with Jesus. Through His words, He revealed Himself to the people in His day and to us.

In our study so far, we have met people like Moses and Gideon who had a hard time being courageous because they had a false definition of who they were. We find that with the discovery of their identity in God came confidence, courage, and faith. Jesus was aware of both His identity as the Son of God and the Son of man and that gave Him confidence even when He was misidentified.

This revelation was discovered through the scriptures and by the Spirit. That is the same way you will discover who you are.

So what did Jesus know of Himself?

Jesus Said Of Himself

  • “I am the bread of life. – John 6:35-36
  • “I am the light of the world..” – John 8:12
  • “I am the door of the sheep.” John 10:7
  • “I am the good shepherd.”- Joh 10:11
  • “I am the resurrection and the life.” John 11:25
  •  “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” – John 14:6
  • “I am the vine.” -John 15:5

Through scripture, we also know that He is God, He the seed from David, the saviour of the world and the Lamb which was slain to redeem us from death and reconcile us to God. All these and more were recorded of Him and we know that others had their theory and perspective of who He was but He paid them no mind. Whether they called Him a prophet, an associate of demons, or a regular Joe from back in the day, made no difference to Him.

As we celebrate easter, look over who Jesus
