THE FOLLY OF A WISE MAN

  • DAY 318
  • FEAR FILE: SOLOMON
  • SCRIPTURES: 1 KINGS 11:1-28

But King Solomon loved many foreign women, as well as the daughter of Pharaoh: women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians, and Hittites— from the nations of whom the Lord had said to the children of Israel, “You shall not intermarry with them, nor they with you. Surely they will turn away your hearts after their gods.” Solomon clung to these in love. And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines; and his wives turned away his heart. For it was so, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned his heart after other gods; and his heart was not loyal to the Lord his God, as was the heart of his father David. For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. Solomon did evil in the sight of the Lord, and did not fully follow the Lord, as did his father David.

1 kings 11:1-6

God’s instructions are given to protect us and not to limit us. God told Israel not to marry foreigners, the people from the nations He drove out to put them. He knew that if they did, their hearts would be drawn away from Him to other gods. God knows the influence that love can have on the hearts of a man because He is love. He also knows that marriage is very powerful and intercourse has a way of uniting two and making them one. This often results in a change of preferences and desires.

There Is A Cost

But, in our text today, Solomon did not follow that instruction. How can you be so wise in everything and foolishly disobey a clear instruction from God? He took on other women and just as God said, they drew his heart away. This provoked God and He said,

"I will surely tear the kingdom away from you and give it to your servant. Nevertheless I will not do it in your days, for the sake of your father David; I will tear it out of the hand of your son." - 1 Kings 11:11-12

When we don’t live by faith, which is in essence obedience, we might cost generations after us something very dear. Solomon’s decision not to obey God affected his children. His son and generations after him should have led 12 tribes of Israel but because it was divided they led only two (Judah and Benjamin). People of courage and faith obey God. We have said this countless times, but it is not a problem for me to repeat it to you. God’s instructions are for you not against you.

It’s For Your Good

Don’t fornicate. do not be unequally yoked, go to church, love your neighbour, do not consider yourself more highly than others, love the Lord with all your heart, preach the gospel, be united, and many other instructions from God are for your own good. But instead of focusing on what it protects you from, you are focusing on what you are “losing” or letting go of. Coconut head is not a flex, I cast that rebellious spirit out of your life. I break that stronghold over you. You will start obeying god today onwards in Jesus name.

The only thing disobedience (sin) can give you is tribulation, bondage, and DEATH. Well, I guess we all have a right to choose whether to live a miserable life or a life of obedience. There is no joy in the world, NONE. It breaks my heart to see millions deceived and we take a sacred instruction of God and make it nothing. We even commercialize it and start podcasts to argue about it. May God forgive us, starting with me and my family.

You are not wiser than God, no matter how wise you are. if it can affect the wisest man that ever lived in his time, it can affect you. So obey God’s instruction, do what God says, the way that God said it.

If you’re struggling with obedience, ask God to help you and say, Father, I need your help to obey your word and obey your instruction. In Jesus name.

Shalom.
