Return To Loving God

‘“And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments of the Lord and His statutes which I command you today for your good? ‘

Deuteronomy 10:12-13

Our scripture today is a simple question and the answer is included in the question. God does not require a lot, He doesn’t ask for anything else but love. He says love me with all your heart. Yet, He only expects this from us because he did it first. We can love Him because He first loved us. Then, He gave us the Spirit of love to fill our hearts and enable us to love Him. Because He not only asks us to do something, He equips us to do it.

What does it mean to love the Lord? Jesus said, “If you love Me, keep My commandments.’ John 14:15.

'By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. ' I John 5:2-3

And what is His commandment? Love me by obeying my word, love the people I made and put on the earth with you, and love those who are of the same family of faith as you. It is that simple, yet it is the most difficult thing for us to do. When God says go we say why, instead of where, and sometimes say no. And some of us don’t even read the bible how can we know what to obey?

Beloved, It is impossible to love God and be disobedient to His word. How do you live your life? If we examined you now would we find a consistency or would you fall short of obedience?

David fell short of obedience but his heart still loved God because his heart was willing to do the will of God. So when he sinned against God, he was quick to reconcile because his humanity sometimes overpowered his desire to love God. And God saw his frailty and continued to show him grace and mercy. So the fact that you fail from time to time does not mean that your love for him is non-existent. But if it becomes a consistent, recalcitrant attitude, just like Saul was, then your love is in question.

If we must love Him, our desire must be to do His will. Our intention must be to do His will. Our craving must be to please Him through faith.

What are the signs that we love God?

  • We praise him consistently for what He’s done.
  • We do not take him and all that He is for granted.
  • We love His people and His house
  • We have reverence for Him.
  • And for those He appointed as shepherds, loving Him also means feeding his flock.

Ask yourself today, do I love God?

Prayer

Lord, I want to come out from living disobediently. I want my words to match my actions. So that when I say I love you, you can see that love in my obedience. So help me in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Shalom.
