Remember Where You Fell
In our text, Elisha and the sons of the prophet went to Jordan to get trees to build new houses. While these men were at work the ax head they borrowed fell into the river and sank. When they cried out to Elisha, He asked them, “Where did it fall? Thank God they took note of it. Imagine if they weren’t paying attention or forgot, they would have been in debt.
Jesus said in Revelations 2:5, remember from where you have fallen. If you are to return you must remember where you are returning to or you will not know your way back. When a marriage fails or is failing, they ask, “When did you first notice something is wrong?” When you go to the doctor, He will ask, “When did the symptoms start?” Remembering is important for diagnoses and healing. Beloved, remember where you have fallen, repent, and return to the way you ought to be.
'Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent. ' –Revelation 2:5
Exercise
Ask yourself, when did I notice my prayer life dwindling? When did my hunger for the word start reducing? How did I pick up this habit or addiction? Take note of what you found out and present it to Him. If you cannot remember the exact date, write what you can remember, and ask the Holy Spirit to help you.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, this is where I fell, forgive me, heal me, help me get back on track, and show me how to return. Strengthen me to stay on course and not fall short again. Amen.
