REMEMBER

  • DAY 122
  • FEAR FILE: FOLLOWERS OF JESUS
  • SCRIPTURE: LUKE 24:1-8

Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre. And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus. And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments: And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. And they remembered his words,

Luke 24:1-8

Whenever we talk about the disciples or followers of Jesus, we should not forget the women that were with Him. Now, the women may have not been part of the 12, but they were with Jesus almost throughout his journey.

Our study today is drawn from the morning of  the resurrection. Jesus was crucified a day before the Sabbath. And the Sabbath day was a day that everybody stayed home, rested and honored the Lord. I can imagine that they were anxiously waiting for the Sabbath day to be over. Because we see that once morning came the next day they rushed to the tomb to be carter to the body of Jesus. However, when they got to the tomb, Jesus was not there. The stone that was sealed shut had been rolled away and He was no longer lying there. They went into the tomb, but they couldn’t find His body.

One thing about women is that we are very passionate about the people we love. And as they couldn’t find their savior. I’m sure that their heart broke and was filled with anxiety, the Bible says that they were perplexed. But God saw their fear and anxiety and He sent them a comfort. Two men appeared and said  ‘Why are you afraid? Why are you mourning? Why are you sad? Why are you anxious? Why are you looking for Jesus among the dead? He’s living.

Do You Remember?

I can imagine that the women were looking at the strange men like, What are you talking about? Where am I supposed to look for Him? They must have asked them ‘Did you take His body? Did you take it and give it to the pharisees? The angels responded ‘He is not here, He has risen, as He said.

Remember what he said to you? Cast your mind back and remember. The only reason that they were anxiously looking for Jesus at the tomb was because they had forgotten what He said to them. The moment they didn’t find his body, if they had just remembered what he said, they wouldn’t have had fear where they should have had peace. They wouldn’t have been worried and afraid they would have been rejoicing.

Even from the Sabbath day, even if others were mourning Jesus, they were supposed to experience Joy while they were resting and honoring the Lord on the Sabbath day. They shouldn’t have been anxious. They should have been praising and anticipating His resurrection. But they had forgotten.

What have you forgotten?

Could it be that you are worried about may things because you have forgotten what He said. You are worried about the behavior of that child because you have forgotten that Children are a gift from God, so instead of rejoicing because of your gift, you are worried.

You are anxious about your marriage because you have forgotten that the Bible says

“Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them” (Isaiah 34:15)

You are anxious about your finances because you’ve forgotten that the Bible says you should take no thought for your Father knows what it is that you need and He will supply all your needs. (Matthew 6:25-34)

You are anxious about your business because you have forgotten that he says the works of your hands he shall blessed (Deuteronomy 28:12).

You are anxious about your accommodation because you forgot that he gives you shelter “There will be a shelter to give shade from the heat by day, and refuge and protection from the storm and the rain”(Isaiah 4:6).

You are anxious about many things because you are forgetting what God said about those things.

Beloved, do not forget or put aside what God has said.

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. (Joshua 1:8)

Be Intentional

Whatever you can do to remember the promise, do. In the time of Moses, the Israelites embroidered the word and promises of God on their clothes so they wouldn’t forget. So today, when you see people print t-shirts with scripture or post stickers on doors, they’re trying to remember the word. This is not meant to be a religious thing. It’s supposed to be a faith thing, putting scriptures up, so that you can remember the promise that brought you to the miracle that you’re currently living in.

Where you are, today is a miracle that you were believing for yesterday. And so you have to remember the word that got you there and also put the word that He’s giving you for the place you’re going to. Remember what He said. Remember the promise he made.

So, I want you today to cast your mind back, if you have to, revisit your journals. Revisit your notes and check and see what the Lord said to you that you are forgetting or taking for granted. It will amaze you how your faith will begin to spur up and grow steadier.

The Bible also tells us that the Holy Spirit will remind us. So ask Him today to bring to your remembrance the promises you have forgotten. And He will.

Shalom
