Not My Gift

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

2 Timothy 1:7

“God has not given me a spirit of fear.” That has to be a confession you make every single time fear comes to threaten you. Two things we find in that scripture:

  • Fear is a spirit.
  • That spirit is given, like a gift.

The thing with gifts is that they are evaluated by their giver. If someone gives you a very expensive gift that you love, but the person who gave it is dubious or manipulative, all of a sudden that expensive gift will lose value in your sight, and you won’t be able to enjoy it, even if you accept it.

Fear is not a gift from God. Since we know God is good, and every good gift comes from Him, the fact that He didn’t give us this gift is telling. And if it is not from Him, you don’t want it. No other source can give you a good gift. I don’t want anything from any source but God, and I hope you don’t either. So it has to go.

Whatever fear you have noticed or seen in your life, whether it’s doubt, uncertainty, procrastination, an identity crisis, low self-esteem, anxiety, any phobias, or even diagnoses, you can speak to it right now.

Declare:

God has not given me a spirit of fear, and whatever the Lord has not planted, be uprooted now in the name of Jesus. Spirit of fear, I expel you out of my life. You have no room or place here. This territory is marked by the blood of Jesus. So be gone, in the name of Jesus.
