NO EVIL

  • DAY 71
  • Fear File: YOU
  • Scripture: Psalm 91:10

No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;

The theme of our study for the past couple of days has been Psalm 91. So if you’ve missed any, go back and catch up

This Is Evil

Evil refers to something wrong, morally bad, harmful, or wicked. It may just be me but I never think of Immorality when I hear the word evil. My mind goes to something I can cast and bind. However, I’m learning that deception is one of the enemy’s strategies and we ought not to be ignorant of his devices. He can have you in a cycle of fruitless fear-motivated midnight prayers to “cast” out the Evil all the while closing your eyes to the fornication in your house, the adultery, the lying, cheating,  stealing, false pretenses, gossip, all that within. Don’t get me wrong, by all means, bind what you must and cast what you should but don’t neglect what is disguised. Because they have the capacity to poke holes in your faith, and as we read in verse 6 faith is your shield. And you cannot be living a fully evil life and still have full faith at the same time.

The world we live in is full of evil. Isaiah 60 says darkness has covered the earth and great darkness the people but on you there is light. This sounds a lot like what we read in this scripture that no evil shall come near our dwelling.

Morality might be a suggestion in our society today and evil may be everywhere but you and your house are protected from it. Why? Because you dwell in the Secret Place.

A Slip Here and There

You see, no one intentionally just wakes up deciding to step into evil, at least I hope not. It often starts with one compromise at a time and before you know it your heart has tilted. So, what being in the secret place does for you is to guard your heart and keep you from slipping. So that you can stand as righteous in an evil corrupt world. He also protects your home from the decadence of society. I know a lot of Christian parents who are worried about the moral state of their children. I wanna remind you today that all that filth in the world shall not come near you.

So what of evil that comes as an accident, sudden death, lack, grief, depression, foreclosure, or disaster? It shall not come near you. Does this negate the tribulation we might face as a result of being on earth? No! But as a believer I believe you know that all things are programmed to work for your good if the end is good can the beginning be bad? We know a good tree is made by a good seed. Even the unpleasantness is in the good seed.

NO EVIL

When the Bible says ‘no evil’, it means NO single evil. it doesn’t matter the level of evil, not a single one shall come near you. If He’s going to cast away the demons, then He’s also going to cast away immorality. If He’s going to protect me from the snare of the Fowler, then He’s also going to protect me from a lying tongue. No form of evil shall come near my home.

But it’s not only the evils, the verse also talked about plagues. A plague usually is a sickness or a disease, and in Biblical times it comes because God is angry about something or someone and decides to send a plague as a punishment. But here’s the catch, God also exempts us from plagues. The Israelites faced some of the Egyptian plagues but when God got ready, he created a separation between Egypt and Israel, and He is doing that for you today.

Beloved, rest in the fact that you are safe in God’s secret place, and do not succumb to anxiety

Instead, Pray

Heavenly Father, take you for your protection over me and my house today and always. We rest in your promise and trust you. Amen

Shalom
