Love Your Brother

‘A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”’

John 13:34-35

What did Jesus mean by one another? He was saying love your fellow believers in Christ. Love is how the world will identify believers. God does not play with His children neither should we.

He defends them as much as He defends you. Every promise in scripture that you claim for yourself is also the same promise that He made to them. So be careful when you break their hearts, cheat them in business or spread rumurs about them. God is just and He will defend the oppressed.

Your neighbours, you can love as yourself but your brothers you must love beyond yourself –you love them like Christ loves you. Think about that for a moment. is this even possible?  Yes. How do I know? Because Jesus will never ask what we cannot do by His spirit.

Ask yourself this: How does Christ love me? Now go love your brother that same way.

Pray for them, forgive their wrongs no matter how many times, believe the best in them, don’t withhold good from them when it is in your power to do so, and whatever else Jesus does for you. Yes, it is tough and almost impossible but you can do all things through Christ that strengthens you.

Prayer

Father, give me a heart that loves like you. Let me love my brother like you love me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
