IT’S HUMAN

  • DAY 273
  • FAITH FILE: ELIJAH
  • SCRIPTURES: 1 KINGS 19:1-3

And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, also how he had executed all the prophets with the sword. Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time.” And when he saw that, he arose and ran for his life, and went to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there.

This is for the strong people. Those of you who are courageous and faithful. You who are passionate, driven, dependent on God, hopeful, and don’t give up easily. But in this season, you find yourself shaky or struggling with fears you thought you should have overcome and you are not sure why. I want to remind you that strong people can have weak moments, and courageous people can have fearful moments and faithful people can have doubtful moments.

In our text today, Elijah, who had the audacity to decree a drought, call down fire, and kill 450 prophets of Baal. The same Elijah who put his head between his knees and prayed for rain. That exact Elijah gets a threat from Jezebel and becomes so afraid that he runs for his life. How do you do such great miracles and be threatened by Jezebel? I have heard so many theories from preachers explaining this anomaly. Some say he was tired, others said, he was hungry. And they may be right. But, It could be that he was just human. And sometimes strong people have weak moments and courageous people have fearful moments. And that is okay.

It’s okay

All through the bible, we see courageous people falter or show fear at some point in their journey. From Adam to Abraham to David to Solomon to our Saviour Jesus and all the apostles. That’s what makes us human and shows how desperately we need God. It also allows God to manifest His strength in ways we never thought possible Paul said he will glory in his weakness because in the moment when he is the weakest God manifests himself the most. These moments remind us that we are human and allow us to remember our maker.

When we are glorying in our flesh we are giving less room for God to manifest. But when we remember that we are frail we humble ourselves under His mighty hand and he supplies us grace through the work of His Holy Spirit in us. The spirit we have resurrects us from weakness to strength but He also stands by us in every season to help.

If this is your fearful moment lean on the Holy Spirit. Don’t spend time dwelling on why you failed or living in guilt. Go to your Helper for support, recovery, and sustenance. And even if you are in your strong season now, still ask God for help. Sow a seed of prayer ahead of you for your fearful moment.

Shalom
