It’s Better Back Home

‘“But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! ‘

Luke 15:17

The parable of the prodigal son is a beautiful depiction of the truth of the Father’s heart. It is a reminder that no matter how far you have gone you can always come back to and that nowhere is better than home.

This son left home and, quickly, squandered all he had in riotous living. He went on to live an impoverished life and couldn’t find food to eat. At some point, while the prodigal son was begging for pig’s meal and not getting any, he realised it was better back home. Even the servants back home are better off than him, a son who has left his place and position of sonship.

Beloved, you are a son in the kingdom, you can never thrive elsewhere. You will always end up in the position the prodigal son found himself. You may not be physically impoverished but deep within you, there will be a God-sized hole. Your soul will look for food among pigs and guess what, you will still not find meat that will satisfy you. Why wait that long? Return now.

Stop wondering if you have gone too far and wasted too much time and now you cannot return and obey the word He gave you 10 years ago. Just go back to where you are supposed to be and leave the rest for God.

Exercise

Ask yourself, what ways have I walked away from God? What did He ask you to do but you played Jonah and have been living on the run ever since. Are you willing to return?

Prayer

Say, Lord, I return to You today. To Your word, Your way, Your plan. Lead me in the way everlasting. I repent of walking away and living in disobedience, teach my heart to trust you always. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Shalom
