WHAT DO YOU SAY?

I will say of the Lord

Psalm 91:2

What do you say of God? You might be wondering why what you say about the Lord is important but it is. What you say is important, period. Our words are powerful. It has the power of life and death; It has creative power. It not only shapes your perception but your reality. So what you say about anything is critical to what your heart can receive from it. Let’s not forget that both faith and fear come by hearing. If you hear words of faith, you become full of faith. If you hear words of fear you become more fearful.

Have you noticed that your emotions and your reactions can be changed by words? if you hear “RUN!” how do you react? What emotions are stirred up in you? even if you don’t know why you’re running, something in you is getting ready to run. If you hear RELAX! what emotions are stirred up in you? So if you say, “the Lord is for me”, you position your heart to have faith that God is for you. But if you say “God has abandoned me,” you position your heart to believe that as well.

God is not defined by us, He doesn’t have identity issues. He is well aware of who He is. He is so vast, so versatile, and unlimitable that He gave you a blank check to call Him what you believe Him to be in your situation. So when you get in a fix and need a helper, the moment you call Him “helper” He manifests as that.

I have had seasons in my life when I needed God to be one thing but I called him another thing. I was hurt, and I needed a healer but I called him mean and it took longer to heal because my heart was not positioned for healing. but thank God for mercy. He provided enough grace to get my heart in the right place for the healing I needed. Don’t give the devil ammunition by using the wrong words.

What you say of the Lord is also a testimony to others. Your words become their reference sometimes when they feel hopeless. Give people evidence to hold on to, by the words you say about God. Give them a tool for overcoming.

For this psalmist, He called God a refuge and fortress. A fortress is a place not susceptible to any threat. It’s a fortified place that can’t easily be broken into. Moses was in the wilderness when he wrote this psalm. There is no way he could find shelter or defense in a wilderness where they couldn’t even find food and water. Not to mention that they were vulnerable to attacks from all sides. But he called for a safe place that was impenetrable to man and he was safe.

Say This

So here are a couple of scriptures to get you started on what to say about your God.

  • Psalm 27:1-2 – “The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?
  • Psalm 63:7 “Because You have been my help, therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice.”
  • Psalm 121:5-6 -“The Lord is your keeper; The Lord is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, Nor the moon by night.”
  • Psalm 46:1 -“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
  • Psalm 142:5 -“I cried out to You, O Lord; I said, “You are my refuge, My portion in the land of the living.”
