DAY 28: HEART POSTURE

But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. Now God had brought Daniel into the favor and goodwill of the chief of the eunuchs.

Daniel 1:8-9

Daniel and his friends found themselves in a new season and unpleasant season. They were taken to Babylon as captives and their identities were changed. Then they were offered delicacies that contradicted their faith. They gave them the benefits of Babylon, the benefits of captivity, a sinful place. But they turned it down because they purposed in their heart, not to sin against God.

They made this decision in their hearts. This wasn’t a loud affirmation for all to hear. A lot of us profess what we have not settled in our hearts and then our actions don’t match our confessions and we appear as hypocrites.

Advance Determination

I believe that Daniel made up mind before the offers were made and so he was able to turn it down. It is not at the time that offers are made that you make up your mind, it is before. So the beginning days of a new season is a good time to start setting your heart in the right condition.

You cannot predict what offers will come your way as you progress in this season. So now is the best time to make up your mind that no matter what circumstances come, no matter the opportunities or offers presented throughout the year, your heart is not going to leave the ways of God. You are not going to sin against God or defile yourself with the world.

If you do not decide your response ahead of time, chances are you will compromise. Get your heart postured to obey the word of God no matter the circumstance.

Declare

Speak to your heart and say, “My heart, you shall do the word of God. No matter the circumstance I face your response will be obedience to God.. You will not defile yourself with the things that the world has to offer, I will stand with what God has given me.”

Shalom.
