GOD AT WORK

  • DAY 189
  • FAITH FILES: MORDECAI
  • SCRIPTURES: ESTHER 5&6

Then his wife Zeresh and all his friends said to him, “Let a gallows be made, fifty cubits high, and in the morning suggest to the king that Mordecai be hanged on it; then go merrily with the king to the banquet.” And the thing pleased Haman; so he had the gallows made. That night the king could not sleep. So one was commanded to bring the book of the records of the chronicles; and they were read before the king. And it was found written that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s eunuchs, the doorkeepers who had sought to lay hands on King Ahasuerus. Then the king said, “What honor or dignity has been bestowed on Mordecai for this?” And the king’s servants who attended him said, “Nothing has been done for him.” So the king said, “Who is in the court?” Now Haman had just entered the outer court of the king’s palace to suggest that the king hang Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him. The king’s servants said to him, “Haman is there, standing in the court.” And the king said, “Let him come in.”

ESTHER 5:14; 6:1-5

Dear Courageous person, remember that God is always working to protect you, even when you can’t see it. Sometimes we feel worried and confused about the things we know, and we get scared and concerned during difficult times. But we don’t realize that the challenges we see are nothing compared to the ones God has stopped from happening. Battles are going on that we will never know about, battles that God has prevented. When we read the story of Job, we learn that God has a strong shield of protection around us. The enemy can’t even attack us without God’s permission.

Wrong Place, Wrong Time

In our text today, we read of another unseen battle averted. Haman had just returned from the first banquet prepared for him by the queen, and he was excited and swelling with pride. But the joy was short-lived because it disappeared as soon as he saw Mordecai still not bowing. So, he decides that waiting until the annihilation of the Jews was too far; something had to be done right away. At the suggestion of his friends, he built a 75 feet tall gallows to hang Mordecai in. He was to request permission from the king in the morning. So that night, he made sure the gallows were built.

You have to understand that Mordecai had no idea Haman wanted him dead that night. He was unaware of the gallows already dug for him, and he knew not that his case was about to be presented to the king. He was only doing what he always did, which was to be faithful to God. Yet, God had taken away the sleep of his king so that he could be delivered from his enemy. As Haman dug the gallows, the king tossed in his bed. As he left his house, the book of records was being read, and as he entered the king’s court, the king needed a prince. Coincidence? Me thinks not.

God at Work

I can only imagine how shocked Mordecai must have been when his enemy, Haman, came to put the king’s robe on him. As he rode on the king’s horse, with Haman announcing him ahead, Mordecai must have been so confused about how this could happen. He had no clue that a plan to have him hanged had somehow turned into a horse ride. God intervened, He did His work and Mordecai got the benefit.

Beloved, God is doing His work even now. You are worried and concerned about what to eat and what to wear and God just destroyed a whole coven in your defense. There you are complaining that you didn’t get the job meanwhile God just saved you from a business established on occult practices. You are concerned about your broken engagement, but God just saved you from a toxic marriage.

Trust

That’s why the bible encourages us to always give thanks to God because we never know what he has saved us from. Jesus also taught us not to worry about anything. God is taking care of your situation. This is a great time to praise him for everything He is doing and to apologize for doubting His ability to help you.

Shalom
