GET THE HEAD

  • DAY 174
  • FAITH FILES: DAVID
  • SCRIPTURES: 1 SAMUEL 17:48-51

So it was, when the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David, that David hurried and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. Then David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone; and he slung it and struck the Philistine in his forehead, so that the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth. So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him. But there was no sword in the hand of David. Therefore David ran and stood over the Philistine, took his sword and drew it out of its sheath and killed him, and cut off his head with it.
And when the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled.

It is one thing to have the courage to face a terrible obstacle or enemy, it is another thing to bring that enemy down or overcome that challenge. However, there has to be a finality to victory. Often times we face our fears and when we see them begin to come down, we rejoice and walk away. But a fallen giant can be awakened under the right circumstance. A subdued fear can resurface, and challenges never tire to reappear. But you know what can never reoccur, a dead thing.

In our study today we see that David has overcome Goliath and knocked him face down with his sling and stone, the bible said Goliath was dead, we read that now because it is an account of the story but David didn’t read 1 Samuel, he lived it. in his reality, his enemy was on the ground but he needed to be sure that he was truly defeated. So he proceeds to take Goliath’s sword and cut his head off. One would think that the fact that Goliath is dead or even face down is enough for David to run in victory but David needed to ensure that Goliath had no possibility of ever getting up again. Secondly, he needed a trophy, evidence of the greatest battle he has ever fought in his life; a proof of his victory. This is what fighters do.

Fight To Finish

The few times in my life I have watched a fight. The winner is not declared until the opposition has lost the capacity to stand up at the count of 10 or 3. Sometimes I watched as men who were knocked out stood up and kept fighting. So they keep fighting until their opponent is unable to recover in that fight, then and ONLY then is victory declared for the man standing. Don’t turn around yet until you are sure that you have cut off the head of that opponent until you have rendered your fears impotent and your opposition incapacitated forever, lifeless dead, vanquished, and gone

Beloved, you need to continue to throw punches until you can get evidence you’re going to need something to go home with. You’re going to need something to tell somebody else that will face the same challenge “This is the evidence of my testimony, this is the proof that I fought this fight I won this fight and overcome the enemy and I rendered him helpless and he cannot arise again. So while that enemy is lying on the ground that enemy called fear, that enemy called defeat, that enemy called pressure, that near-success syndrome, that barrenness, that anxiety cut his head off. Until it is flat-out on the ground, beheaded, you cannot walk away.

Until Isreal saw Goliath’s head in the hand of David, they lacked courage. Until your family sees the head of that enemy they will not wake up. Pick up courage and fight, somebody is depending on you to show them the head of Goliath so that they can take confidence and fight

I pray that you will not be afraid to advance in the direction of your enemy that is lying face on the ground and take your trophy. I pray that you will not be too afraid to come close to that formidable enemy that you have just overcome and I pray that you will not walk away prematurely. In Jesus name

Shalom
