FAITH FOR FAMILY
- DAY 316
- FAITH FILE: REBEKAH
- SCRIPTURES: Genesis 27
Beloved, I want you to let the next statement sit on the inside of you. Every family needs a person of faith if they will fulfill God’s plan and purpose for their family. Especially a woman. In every family unit, a woman is very important to the destiny of that home, to the destiny of her children, and that of her husband. She’s at the focal point of how things turn out in the lives of the members of her family. And we see that with Rebecca.
In our study yesterday, God gave her a word about her twins. In our text today, she is standing outside the door, listening to a conversation between her husband, Isaac, and her son, Esau. Isaac is about to make Esau his heir. This would mean that the younger will now serve the older, instead of the older serving the younger, as God had said to her. In that moment she must have wondered what was going to happen to the word that God had spoken concerning my children. She knew she had to do something or risk the destiny of her family. The covenant of Abraham needed to be transferred to the next generation. And she was not going to allow it to fall to the wrong person.
The Real Culprit
Those of us who accused Jacob of stealing the blessing might need to reconsider that judgment because the truth is, he didn’t know anything about this word that God gave to the mother. He had no idea that the father had called Esau at that time, he only followed the instructions of his mother. He even hesitated because he was afraid of being caught and called a deceiver.
And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man: 12my father peradventure will feel me, and I shall seem to him as a deceiver; and I shall bring a curse upon me, and not a blessing. Genesis 27:11-12
The mom replied, “Upon me be thy curse, my son: only obey my voice” She was willing to make this substitute and carry a curse if it meant that her family would fulfill destiny.
Step Up
if you’re going to be a woman who will preserve the legacy of her children or the person who will ensure that the promise for your family doesn’t fall to the ground. You have to be able to hold on to the word that God gave you and nurse it for the future so that you can call it up to heart and do what is necessary for you to do. You also have to be sensitive and observant of things that are happening in your family and be willing to take a bold step no matter the cost.
Beloved, your family is counting on you, your nation is counting on you and the destiny of your family is waiting on you to step up and be courageous, no matter your gender or role in the home. God has a plan for your home and until someone steps up as a watchman that plan might not be fulfilled. I believe that person is you.
Would you take a moment and pray for yourself? Talk to God about your family and ask for courage and strength to do what is necessary for your family. In Jesus’ name.
Shalom.
Amen
