DON’T TURN ASIDE

  • DAY 162:
  • FEAR FILES: ISREAL
  • SCRIPTURES: I SAMUEL 12:20-22

Then Samuel said to the people, “Do not fear. You have done all this wickedness; yet do not turn aside from following the Lord, but serve the Lord with all your heart. And do not turn aside; for then you would go after empty things which cannot profit or deliver, for they are nothing. For the Lord will not forsake His people, for His great name’s sake, because it has pleased the Lord to make you His people.

After Samuel established his innocence, he proceeded to the agenda he had in mind when he called the assembly. It was now time for him to address the rebellion and disobedience of Isreal. He started it way back from their sojourn and Exodus from Egypt. He wasn’t only making a case against them but also making a case for God. Every time he noted that they failed, he proved God’s faithfulness in forgiving and restoring them time and time again.

This is true for us in this day, God’s faithfulness doesn’t wane when ours does. He remains true to us and His word. After Samuel said his peace, he showed them a sign and the people became afraid. Guilt gripped their heart. Isreal could see that indeed that had offended God and sought to make peace. Reality had finally dawned on them and they were cut to the heart by their sin.

But Samuel knew again that conviction of sin comes that we might repent and return not run away in shame to hide in fear. Therefore, He reminds them once more, that the faithfulness of God hasn’t run out. He said, “Do not fear. Of course, you are guilty. you did what God said not to do. You stepped out of line, you messed up. but there’s still room for you in His. I don’t want you to feel like you can’t come to God even now. Don’t dwell in fear, come. If you let the fear in, you will turn aside from serving God and pursue worthless things. Do not fear, God has not forsaken you.”

I feel that word for somebody. God has not forsaken you. if you have thought that you failed too many times you’re probably right. Yet, those lies the enemy is telling you that God is tired of forgiving you need to be discarded. He’s lying boldly, it’s his nature. The truth is, God, cannot ever stop being faithful.

Beloved, do not be afraid. Don’t let fear be the reason you turn side.

Shalom.
