DON’T KNOW? ASK
- DAY 315
- FAITH FILE: REBEKAH
- SCRIPTURES: GENESIS 25:21-23
Rebecca was the wife of Isaac. The Bible records in our text today that she had trouble conceiving. But when her husband prays for her she conceives. But there is a problem. She is having the worst kind of pregnancy sickness she has ever witnessed. This was beyond the normal morning sickness. It felt like there was a war going on inside her. She must have been afraid and concerned. This kind of experience can be terrifying for a first-time mom, especially when there was a struggle to conceive in the first place. Finally, she gets to be called a mom and then she’s going through all of this.
“What is going on with me?” She asked God, “What’s happening in my body? Why am I feeling this way? Why am I sick all the time? If all is well, if these babies are your gift to me, why am I struggling so much with these babies?” In her fearful moment, she chose to talk to God.
Inquire Not Complain
Sometimes when we don’t understand what is going on with us, we complain instead of inquire. Have you asked God or are you accusing Him? These things are so easy to remember until it is time to do it and our brains return to the condition of our hearts. Thankfully the bible says things more than once, in different ways, across different books. So if you miss it in Genesis, you will find it in Habakuk and if that goes over your head, there it is again in Matthew. Repetition is good so that when you hear and hear the same thing, your faith will be built on it.
When she asked, God gave her an answer. God spoke to her and gave her an explanation and we never heard of her complaint again. Yet we know that the war between her kids continued within her until they were born. Jacob even held on to the heel of Esau, as if he was struggling to go before him. However, because Rebekah had an explanation she was able to withstand this struggle and difficulty throughout her pregnancy.
The Asking Place
In the journey of faith and life, we may not know why something is happening that’s why we have to learn the art of prayer. It is while praying that we ask questions and receive answers or comfort to go through those unknown situations. When you have answers, it gives you understanding that gives your heart courage and faith. Or when you have comfort, which is the Holy Spirit breathing over your heart in the moments when you don’t have answers.
Beloved, I don’t know what situation has you pulled on all sides and makes you wonder what’s going on with you. Take that to God and pray about it. As you do that, I pray that you have an answer. That God will speak to you and your ears will be open to hear what He has to say. And you will hear His voice and feel His comfort so clearly, so distinctly, that you will not doubt His capability and your faith will be fortified as you take this uncertain journey.
Shalom.
Amen
