DO NOT HESITATE

  • DAY 3
  • Fear File : Lot
  • Scripture: Genesis 19:15 – 16

“At dawn the next morning the angels became insistent. “Hurry,” they said to Lot. “Take your wife and your two daughters who are here. Get out right now, or you will be swept away in the destruction of the city!” When Lot still hesitated, the angels seized his hand and the hands of his wife and two daughters and rushed them to safety outside the city, for the Lord was merciful.

Genesis 19:15-16

Hesitation: a delay due to uncertainty of mind or fear: a state of doubt or uncertainty.

In my very short life so far, never have I seen someone hesitate that was not afraid of one thing or the other. The very definition of hesitation has fear (doubt and uncertainty) in it. Hesitation might save you from investing in a Ponzi scheme but when it comes to following God’s plan for your life it is always a hindrance.

For Lot, his hesitation was at the expense of his life and that of his family. He didn’t doubt the Lord or His angels. At their word he went out to convince his sons-in-law to leave Sodom with him. So he believed that Sodom will be destroyed but he hesitated because Sodom was his home and he was uncertain of what comes next, what would life be outside of sodom?

For you, Sodom might represent an abomination that had to be eliminated but for Lot, it was the lushy green pastures that gave him a home, a wife and a family. It was the new headquarters of his wealth and business. It was his comfort zone. Sure, the place was sinful but show me a perfect place. Isn’t it true that every beautiful country has a slum? So, of course he hesitated to leave his home.

Leaving Is Tough

It is not always easy to leave what you’ve always known for the unknown. An uncertain future is not as exciting to everyone. Leaving the familiar for the unknown is always scary, even if the known was a nightmare. Often we find people cling to abusive relationships because they don’t want to join the dating pool. Some people stay at a frustrating job because they don’t want to risk unemployment. It would be a whole lot easier if there was another job waiting. But God doesn’t always tell us what’s next until we have done what He last said. Just ask Abram, Noah, Israel and the rest.

On this journey of faith, we don’t always have the full picture. God doesn’t always give us all the details. He says “leave your country to a place I will show you.” (Genesis 12:1). Doesn’t sound like enough details does it? So we hesitate and we almost lose out on the great plans he has for us, but for the mercies of God.

O God Of Mercy!

Can we take a moment to thank God for his unending mercies? What would have become of Lot if God never dragged him out? What would have become of you if you didnt get fired? Or if he didnt break up with you. Truth is, some of us will never leave if God doesn’t force us out. We will delay, hesitate and procrastinate our lives away. Left to our own vices we will miss God’s calling, plan and purpose for our lives and that’s a fact.

God identifies as merciful. The mercy of God is unending. The same mercy that makes Him lift and lowly man. Also makes him drag a fearful man.

However, this mercy that Lot enjoyed was the benefit of Abraham’s intercession. God revealed His plan to his friend, Abraham, and this man of faith interceded.

Beloved someone is praying for you. I know that there are times I have been led to pray for people I don’t know personally. I might never know the outcome but maybe it was a channel for mercy. God will move one of His sons to intercede so that he can find a channel to get to you. You are the recipient of God’s mercy! So do not hesitate. MOVE! NOW!

And if you are hesitating, I pray that the mercies of God moves you right now. In Jesus name
