DISQUALIFIED BUT FAITHFUL

  • DAY 300
  • FEAR FILE: MOSES
  • SCRIPTURES: DEUT 3:23-28

““Then I pleaded with the Lord at that time, saying: I pray, let me cross over and see the good land beyond the Jordan, those pleasant mountains, and Lebanon.’ “But the Lord was angry with me on your account, and would not listen to me. So the Lord said to me: ‘Enough of that! Speak no more to Me of this matter. But command Joshua, and encourage him and strengthen him; for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which you will see.’”

Deuteronomy‬ ‭3‬:‭23‬, ‭25‬-‭26‬, ‭28‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

In our text today, Moses is disqualified from entering the promised land and the people he was called to lead are the reason. They provoked him so much that he did what he wasn’t supposed to do. He was angry and sinned by striking a rock he was supposed to speak to speak to. Although God honored His word and brought water from that rock Moses was only allowed a glimpse of the promised land from a distance.

Moses begged, pleaded, and asked God to reconsider but God didn’t. This same Moses changed God’s mind concerning Isreal and sat with God face to face but he couldn’t change God’s mind. He is merciful but still, to be feared. We can go into why God didn’t change his mind but today’s devotional is about Moses’ faith and courage in this situation.

No Offense

Every normal man would have taken offense at God. He and God were tight, this guy literally ate with God. God passed before him and he saw His back, something nobody saw. He sat with God so much that although He wasn’t there from Genesis, he could see where God had been and record it. He could have felt that if anyone deserved mercy it would be him. But people of courage are not normal.

Moses did not take offense or hold a grudge against God. He accepted God’s judgment and kept doing what he was doing with commitment and joy. Although he knew he was not going to enter the promised land, he prepared the children of Israel and his successor, Joshua adequately. to go. He prophetically blessed them and he divided their inheritance amongst them. He prayed over Joshua and gave him guidelines.

People of faith are sons and they know to accept their father’s no. They know and love their father too much to be upset. Only a child disowns the father when he doesn’t let them have their way.

I pray that our faith will get there. That we’d love God so much that even when we encounter His judgment, we do not turn aside from Him. We stay faithful. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Shalom.
