CALL! HE ANSWERS

  • DAY 75
  • Fear File: YOU
  • Scripture: Psalm 91:15

He [you] shall call upon Me, and I will answer him [you]

My mom is one of my favorite people. She’s a perfect blend of faith, strength, and, of course, the no-nonsense nature of an African mother. But as terrifying as she can be, she was my safety net growing up. She was the first person I would call if I had any problems; be it a spiritual issue or a physical fight. Because I know that the moment I call her, she comes immediately to my rescue and goes after whatever it was that tried to trouble me. And if it was my fault, she will descend on me later but first, she attacks the enemy. That’s just how my mom is and I believe that most, if not all parents are the same way. If their child calls out to them for help they show up, even if they have to fight or protect the child at the expense of their own well-being. The cry of a child activates the protective nature of parents.

Good, Good Father

God is no different, if anything, He is even more protective of us than our earthly parents. He is the most powerful and protective father, and He has told us time and time again that He is concerned with what concerns us. So we get ourselves unnecessarily anxious and worried when we think that God would not hear us and come to our rescue when we call.

Most of us are afraid that maybe we offended Him and He is angry with us, so He will not answer us. Others think that since He didn’t come at their time, He didn’t hear or doesn’t care to answer. The enemy loves to tell us all these lies so that we don’t trust the ability of God to come through for us when we call. But God tells us that He is the God that answers when we call and sometimes even before we call. Remember in our study yesterday, we talked about how pleasing the Lord is a surefire way to get our desires met?

He Hears

When we seek Him out, we find Him, when we knock, the door is open, when we ask, we receive. So we cannot let fear and worry slip in somewhere along the line and make us fail to trust His capacity to show up or His ability to hear us, because He probably didn’t answer at the exact moment we called.

King David also had times when he felt like God wasn’t hearing him, and he is referred to as “the one after God’s heart”. Like us, he often lamented in his psalms that God had “forsaken” him

"My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish? My God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer, by night, but I find no rest." Psalm 22:1-2

But was it because God didn’t hear or because God forsook him? No! rather it was because at that moment worry and anxiety overcame the faith that lets us believe that God hears us.

Loud and Clear!

  • 1 John 5:14

“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us”

  • Jeremiah 29:12-13

“Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

  • Isaiah 65:24

“And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.”

  • Psalm 50:15

“And call upon me on the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.”

  • Jeremiah 33:3

“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not”

Do you really think that God doesn’t hear you?

Beloved, every time you get on your knees to pray, God hears you, every time you put a call across to heaven, God hears you, He is always listening and He’s never too busy to respond. So don’t allow the enemy to put anxiety in your heart.

He’s on the way!

Beloved, that anxiety you feel because you think God didn’t hear you because you haven’t seen Him, is a lie. Martha and Mary also experienced anxiety when they called Jesus to come and heal Lazarus, they were worried that Jesus was not going to come because of how long He took. But did Jesus come? Yes, Jesus did, after 3 days and Lazarus had already died. But Jesus came Just in time to turn healing into a resurrection. It was the best ‘what you wanted versus what you got’ scenario to ever happen.

God is never late. If you called Him according to His word and you prayed in His name, there is nothing that can keep Him from answering you because you are His own and you dwell in the secret place of the Most High.

So let me challenge you to call upon the Lord today.

What is it that has your heart in trouble and in worry? What is it that makes your heart heavy? This is a good time to call upon the Lord and you will see that He would answer you in the name of Jesus.

Shalom.
