The only thing that terrified and weakened these people was simple information. It was not that they had seen these people at war. It was not that they had confronted them before. Beloved, God is always watching and He defends the oppressed and cheated. You see, some of us try to fight for ourselves, we try to get things done our own way because we don’t want people to see us as stupid.
There are several psychological theories that place the ‘Fear of death’ (Thanatophobia) as man’s greatest fear. Let me break it down. Basically, most people are afraid that they are not going to live long and so they’re anxious about dying. Some are anxious because they feel they’re not ready to leave this world yet, and others don’t know where they’re going to end up.
There is nothing more comforting than knowing that somebody is with you in your most difficult times. That you have somebody to run to for comfort, somebody to talk to. Even if the person is miles away, just the knowledge that somebody is with you brings peace even if the troubles are still there. That is exactly what God is saying today, I will be with you in trouble.
