“The eyes of all look expectantly to You, And You give them their food in due season. You open Your hand And satisfy the desire of every living thing.”
Psalm 145:15–16 (NKJV)
Yesterday, when we looked at this same scripture, our focus was on expectation. We talked about how we can direct our expectations toward God and how God wants us to fix our expectations on Him. If you missed that, I encourage you to go back and catch up. We learned that anyone who puts their focus on God is not disappointed.
Today, our focus is on a phrase that we often overlook when we read this scripture. It says, “in due season.” We’ve talked a lot about timing and waiting for God’s timing, and I honestly do not know why God is emphasising this so strongly in January, but I think we need to pay attention.
“In due season” means that there is a time appointed for your satisfaction. It means when God is ready. God is sovereign. He decides what season is due. Even though He does not operate within time the way we do, He works with us through times and seasons. He has already written the seasons of your life, and they are in His hands.
The best time
I know it can be hard to wait for God’s due season. Waiting can feel uncomfortable, slow, and even confusing. But as we see again and again, God’s timing is the best timing, because it is the best time for you.
Due season does not always align with a particular date on a calendar. It is not always when you are thirty-two, or twenty-four, or thirty-five. Very often, due season aligns with readiness. It aligns with preparation. And even when you do not know the exact date your season will change, there are ways to discern when it is near. You begin to notice shifts in the seasons of your life. Things start aligning differently.
Check the signs
One of the major markers that a due season is approaching is restlessness. Another is the sudden increase of options and distractions. These moments invite you to pay attention to what is near. I have learned that when I begin to feel restless in my spirit, it is often because my due season is close.
We see this even in childbirth. The closer a woman gets to delivery, the more uncomfortable it becomes to carry the child. The discomfort is not a sign that something is wrong. It is a sign that something is about to be birthed.
Beloved, as you wait on God and trust His timing, be intentional about paying attention to the patterns in your life. Notice the signs. Notice the shifts. These moments may be markers that your season is near, and that your heart is being prepared to receive what God has already prepared for you.
Prayer
Lord, I do not fully understand why this is a recurring theme, but I trust You. I put my heart, my mind, my hope, and my confidence in You. I trust the time You have prepared for my satisfaction. I do not want to run ahead of You or pursue satisfaction on my own, only to miss Your perfect timing and later seek restoration. Help me to trust Your timings for my life in this season and in every season of my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Shalom
