A STRANGE ASSIGNMENT

  • DAY 282
  • FAITH FILE: NOAH
  • SCRIPTURES: GENESIS 6:13-22

And God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth. Make yourself an ark of gopherwood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch. And behold, I Myself am bringing floodwaters on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth shall die. But I will establish My covenant with you; and you shall go into the ark—you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you. Thus Noah did; according to all that God commanded him, so he did.

GENESIS 6:13-14,17-18,22

Imagine you’re Noah. God tells you that He’s going to destroy the world, but because you’re a good person, you and your immediate family will be saved. How would you feel? I would find it difficult to accept. What will happen to my mother, cousins, siblings, friends, and in-laws? That would be my question. Even if they don’t like me, I would struggle with the possibility of them being destroyed. It’s likely that I would call them to at least warn them to change their ways, so God might reconsider.

However, being saved was not the end of the conversation, there was an assignment as well. He was to build an ark – a very big boart or ship. Big enough to house all kinds of creatures existing. A very big massive boat that everybody will notice while it’s being built. That is a weird and awkward assignment, the kind of thing that can get you committed at Yaba Left (Psychiatric ward). He had to be a carpenter and Dr Dolittle at the same time.

Too Afraid To Fear

Yet Noah obeyed the instructions of God and we read in Hebrews 11:7 that “he moved with godly fear” He was motivated by godly fear. There are so many things in this Noah’s sojourn that could have been terrifying and so many details were not given. Like how will he catch the animals or maintain order in the boat. But stiull he obeyed because he was moved with godly fear.

God is so gifted at giving these kinds of instructions that would make you look weird, stupid, or crazy and still cost you in ways that you cannot imagine but you don’t have the luxury of not obeying because you are a person of faith and courage that is filled with Godly fear. You need to focus on obeying and leave the other details for God.

Pray

If God has given you a strange assignment and you don’t understand how you’re going to be able to pull it off or it is so hard and it is costing you personal resources and relationships, take a moment and say this prayer with me.

Dear Father, I ask today that you give me the strength to obey Your will. Let your fear drown my fears and envelope my heart. Where I struggle, Lord, make your strength perfect. In Jesus’ name.

P.S. Sometimes when we talk about obeying God and obeying His will, we think it only applies to one big or specific assignment. No, the everyday things that you read in the Word require faith to obey completely.

Shalom.
