A FUTURE IN GOD

• SCRIPTURES: LUKE 8:1-2

“Now it came to pass, afterward, that He went through every city and village, preaching and bringing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with Him, and certain women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities—Mary called Magdalene, out of whom had come seven demons.”

Remember Mary Magdalene? We do not know so much about her history or past, except that at the time Jesus met her, she was possessed and ridiculed with infirmities. She had no future, she had no hope and she probably had been written off by society because of these issues. However, that is not how her story ends.

In our text today, she is listed as one of the women who followed Jesus as he went about preaching. She was at the foot of the cross when her saviour was crucified. When He resurrected, he appeared to her first and then sent her to the other disciples. On the day of Pentecost guess who was among the first people to receive the outpouring of the Holy Ghost with the other disciples? This same woman. This woman with an unpromising future and a terrible past, written off by society, found her place in Christ.

Beloved, you have a future in God. It doesn’t matter what your past looks like. For some of us, it may not have been a demon possession. It could be that we were busy living in rebellion and sin. And we’re wondering what would become of our future. Do not be afraid, you have a future in God. God has not written you off just because you or other people have. There is a place for you in Jesus. There’s hope for you in Jesus. There’s a future for you in Jesus. The day you came in contact with Jesus your life was set on the part of His expected end for you.

Do not be afraid.
