A COVENANT FROM OBEDIENCE

  • DAY 284
  • FAITH FILE: NOAH
  • SCRIPTURES: GENESIS 8&9

Then God spoke to Noah and to his sons with him, saying: “And as for Me, behold, I establish My covenant with you and with your descendants after you, and with every living creature that is with you: the birds, the cattle, and every beast of the earth with you, of all that go out of the ark, every beast of the earth. Thus I establish My covenant with you: Never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood; never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.” And God said: “This is the sign of the covenant which I make between Me and you, and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth.

GENESIS 9:8-13

I know one thing for sure, everyone who obeys God gets a reward. We see it over and over again in the Bible. God always honors those who obey him. I’m saying this to remind those of you who sometimes struggle with what God has asked you to do because you are afraid. You are concerned about what it might cost you or the difficulty of the task and as such you are hesitating.

Look at Noah, our text records that God made a covenant with Noah after he obeyed every single thing that God asked him to do. That covenant came with the same blessing He gave Adam at creation and as a symbol, a rainbow. All of this happened because Noah obeyed. If he hadn’t, he might not have been in that position, and neither would generations after him. He probably would have not been remembered as a coulda woulda. that means, he could have been but something great but wasn’t.

There’s a reward, covenant, or promise that comes with obeying God. It happened with Abraham after he obeyed God’s instruction to leave his country, sacrifice Isaac, and teach his children to fear the Lord. God made an everlasting covenant with him. Beloved, whatever God is asking you to do, do it. As we always say, obedience is not only for specific assignments, even the little things you consider little you still need to obey. Every day, we have to live obeying the word of God and living like he asked us to because if there’s one definition for faith it will be obedience.

So pray that God will give you the strength and the courage to obey.

Shalom.
