Remember Me
“And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.’ Likewise, He also took the cup after supper, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.’”
Luke 22:19-20, NKJV
Now that we’ve talked about the sacrifice Jesus paid—all He endured to bring you salvation—let’s talk about the benefits that salvation affords you.
In our text today, Jesus is at the Last Supper. This is His final meal with His disciples before the cross. He takes the bread, breaks it, and declares: “This is My body, broken for you.” Then He lifts the cup and says, “This is My blood, poured out for you.” But here’s what stands out—His command: “Do this in remembrance of Me.”
That means every time we break the bread, every time we lift the cup, it’s not just another communion service. It’s a reminder. But what exactly are we supposed to remember about Jesus?
First and foremost, He wants us to remember Him as our Savior. The Son of God, who stepped down from glory, wrapped Himself in flesh, and became the atoning sacrifice for our sins. He is our substitute—the spotless Lamb who took our place, who bore our shame, who conquered death so we could walk in freedom. That is worth remembering.
Beloved, the thing is, it’s too easy to forget Jesus Himself. When we take communion, we often focus on the benefits of His blood—healing, protection, breaking generational curses etc. We come with our list of requests, our expectations of what His sacrifice should do for us. But how often do we pause to meditate on the Person behind the power? The One who shed the blood and not just the blessings it brings? Jesus is worth meditating on. He is worth remembering and if we have not been careful to remember Him, we can start today!
If you’re reading this right now, grab a cup, a piece of bread, a cracker, whatever you have. As you break it, fix your heart on who Jesus is. Not just what He’s done, but who He is:
- The Way, the Truth, the Life (John 14:6).
- The Perfect One who embraced our imperfection (2 Corinthians 5:21).
- The Lamb slain before the foundation of the world (Revelation 13:8).
- add yours………..
As you remember Him, thank Him for Himself. Worship Him not just for the gifts, but for His greatness. As you do, you’ll find that remembering Him changes everything.
Shalom.
From tomorrow, we will look at every other thing God wants us to remember
