Silent As A Lamb
‘He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth.’
Isaiah 53:7
Have you ever been accused of something you didn’t do—something that could actually get you in trouble? Let me take you back to my secondary school days. I was accused of being a witch (for context, I attended a boarding school). Now, I’ve always been a heavy sleeper, and back then—sometimes even now—I talked in my sleep.
One night, I woke up to water being sprinkled on my face and the sound of people praying around my bunk. You can imagine how terrified I was—only to realize they were casting a demon out of me. Hands down, the most bizarre experience of my life. Why were they so convinced? Two reasons:
- I didn’t respond when they tried waking me up for prayers (multiple times!).
- I kept shouting “Stop doing that!” in my sleep.
Looking back, it’s funny now—but being labeled a witch in an all-girls boarding school in Nigeria? Not a joke. So, guess what I did? I defended myself—aggressively.
Shhh….
Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, was accused of blasphemy—among other things. These accusations were false, yet they could have gotten Him killed. But He did not defend Himself. Every time they demanded an answer, He “answered not a word” (Matthew 27:14). That’s what He endured—for your sake.
Remember what He told Peter? “I could call down legions of angels to fight for Me” (Matthew 26:53). But then He said, “Put your sword away. Don’t defend Me.” That was His sacrifice.
Beloved, Jesus had a defense—a flawless one. But that wasn’t the time for it. He needed those accusations for your freedom. He needed the crucifixion for your salvation. Every step He took was necessary. Every wound He bore was worth it.
As we walk with Him, we’ll face accusations too. Some will come in comment sections. Others will be printed on billboards or even brought before courts. It’ll take courage and faith to know when to stand silent and when to fight back. But either way, the Lord will be your light and salvation. And your sacrifice? It will not be in vain.
Prayer
Father, I know accusations are part of this faith journey. So I pray for strength—to hold my tongue when I shouldn’t defend myself, and to speak up when I must. Guide me, Lord. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Shalom
