Salvation At A Cost
‘knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. ‘
I Peter 1:18-19
What I’m about to say might sound wrong initially, but I’ll say it since it is the truth according to the scripture. I believe you’re the kind of people who can wait for a thought to be complete before concluding. And if it be untrue, you discard it as heresy.
Salvation has a price. Salvation is not free. Now, I know that salvation came to you as a gift, but our text today proves, beyond all reasonable doubt, that salvation had a price – it cost the blood of Jesus Christ.
Cost v Value
Nobody walks into a store to buy a gift, and the cashier says, “Sir, it’s a gift for someone, you can go with it, no need to pay.” If that ever happens, you’d be surprised because it is not how things are done. The norm is that you will pay the store’s price for that item before you can give it away as a gift. The receiver didn’t have to pay a dime, but you paid in full. Your freedom, healing, strength, and every benefit of salvation were given to you at no cost because Jesus paid the price with His life thousands of years ago.
Why is it important for us to remember the cost of salvation? Because cost influences value. And value isn’t always monetary. The child’s painting that is framed or pinned to the fridge is not expensive, but it has more value than even the fridge. Most times my husband goes out of his route to get me something I just mentioned once in passing, I blush like a school girl. It cost him thoughtfulness and that is priceless.
For Compassion
Considering the cost of this priceless gift of salvation makes us compassionate, and that compassion drives us to evangelism. When you remember all that the free gift of salvation gave you – freedom, hope, a better life, freedom from guilt and shame and the bondage of sin, the ability to overcome limitations and step into the fullness of all that God has in store for you, the sweetness of the fellowship of the Holy Spirit – it will drive you to compassion.
Lastly, it makes you more confident to stand and fight the good fight of faith. When you know all Jesus paid for, you will not accept anything less or contrary. He paid in full for your healing, peace, joy, victory, a new identity and nature in Him, and an eternity with Him. You stand boldly in the finished work of Jesus and enjoy all the victory that salvation affords.
We’re close to Easter, and we’ll be looking at the details of the price Jesus paid – the price He paid to earn your lordship, the price He paid to ransom you from death, darkness, and defeat.”
Prayer
Father, I thank you for the gift that you gave. I thank you for the sacrifice of Your son, Jesus. I know now that salvation was paid for at a very high price, and I thank you for paying that price and giving me access to things I needed but could never have paid for. Today, I pray that I would come into a deeper revelation and understanding of what this price affords me. That every time I come in contact with your word, you will open my eyes even more to see all that you died so that I can have. I pray that I will be moved in compassion and the courage to tell more people about this precious gift. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Shalom
