HE IS LORD

‘that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. ‘

Romans 10:9-10

Jesus is Lord. I don’t know what confession you made when you gave your life to Christ, but I want to believe that if you’re Nigerian, one of the confessions you made had this phrase inside: ‘I accept Jesus as my Lord and personal Savior.’ When we said those words or made that statement, most of us did not fully understand or comprehend what we were confessing.

According to dictionary, com a lord is a person who has authority, control, or power over others; a master, chief, or ruler. Lord also means an owner. So, when you accepted Jesus as your Lord, this is what you said in effect: ‘I accept Jesus as my owner. I accept that He has authority, power and control over me.”

Lordship Costs

These are not words we love to hear in our self-seeking, idolatrous generation. Yet, this is the reality of what we chose. Jesus understood what it meant, so did the apostles. Jesus was bold to declare that He could only do what God asked Him to. All the actions that led Him to the cross were not pleasurable but He was under authority. That could be why He was moved by the faith of the centurion, who equally understood lordship. The apostles were not ashamed to be beaten rather than obey the rulers over their Lord and they did well to remind us in the letters that they were servants.

Beloved, ask yourself this: Is Jesus really Lord over your life? Does He really own you? Is He really in control of all that concerns you, or are you the Lord of yourself? Lordship is not something acquired easily or freely. Jesus had to die to be Lord. God created everything and owns everything, yet even He had to pay a price for your surrender.

If He says ‘go!’ do you go? Or do you argue like I do sometimes and try to walk out of it? Some of us only obey when it suits us and we need to ask for mercy and repent before Him. If He is your Lord in word and deed then ask Him for grace to stay surrendered in Jesus’ name.
