Turn Aside

‘Then Moses said, “I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn.” So when the Lord saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.”’

Exodus 3:3-4

After running away from Egypt, Moses found a fresh start in the house of Jethro. He started a family and a new career and for 40 years, he has lived this way and it’s safe to say he had settled into the routine of his new life and left his past behind. The only problem was he not only walked away from Egypt he also walked away from purpose.

Now it was time to go back and he was so engrossed in his present that he lost sight of his purpose and God needed to set him back on track but first He must get his attention. Hence the burning bush. The sight was so strange that he had to turn aside and see. When God saw that He had his attention, He called out to him and that one moment changed history forever.

Attention Please

Could it be that God has been trying to get your attention but you have been too preoccupied with life? Is it possible that He has been calling out to you –“Child, can you see me? Can you hear me? I need to talk to you.” But you are busy tending sheep. You are chasing a promotion, trying to get married, have a baby, get a job, make more money, gather more followers, and all the while He is trying to redirect you to purpose but He cannot get your attention.

Beloved, look around you, is there a burning bush? It could be that that exhaustion, difficulty at work, or unusual disfavor is God’s way of getting your attention. It is time to turn aside.

Today, humble yourself under the mighty hand of God and let Him set your life back on track. You are not a shepherd, you are the deliverer of Israel and you need to return to your purpose.

Prayer

Father, I repent of all my distractions and surrender to You. I lay my day life before you, in Your mercy, set it back in order. Get me on track with your purpose for my life. Where I have lost my way, help me find it again. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Shalom.
