DAY 94: DAILY BREAD

”Give us this day our daily bread.“

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭11‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

I remember bread being a part of almost every breakfast as a kid. It was a necessity and almost every home depended on it. The Jewish culture then and even today is not shy when it comes to bread. It is an essential part of their culture and every meal. I mean, count how many times Jesus ate bread and fish that we know of.

But Jesus is not teaching us to ask literally for bread or food as it were. Bread here signifies everything we need in a day. In the wilderness, God sent bread as manna in the morning, quail in the evening, water from a rock, a pillar of cloud by day, and a pillar of fire by night. All that they needed to get through each was provided that day and no more. They couldn’t even keep the provision of today for tomorrow.

Jesus is teaching us to depend on God for everything we need and not be afraid to ask Our Father about our daily needs.

The eyes of all look expectantly to You, and You give them their food in due season. You open Your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing. –Psalm 145:15

God is intentional about your provision and He has prepared all you need today, so do not be afraid. Instead ask Him just as Jesus taught you.

Confession

Father, give me today my daily bread. I know that You have provided all I need to get by today. So I receive my bread for today;  all that I need for food, shelter, financial resources, and more. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Shalom
