• FEAR FILE: JEHOSHAPHAT
• SCRIPTURES: 2 Chronicles 20:15b-17

Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s. Tomorrow go down against them. They will surely come up by the Ascent of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the brook before the Wilderness of Jeruel. You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the LORD, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem!’ Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the LORD is with you.”

After Jehoshaphat and Judah said their prayer to God, He sent His prophet to them with a word, saying, “The battle is not yours but god’s” I believe that ownership comes with full responsibility. So if you tell me that something belongs to you or somebody I would assume that I should not be involved in it. For example, a landowner is responsible for maintaining the land. I would not expect to be called to week another man’s land/ Your land, your problem, right?

So when I hear “the battle is the Lord’s” and after that, I hear “go down against them” I’m wondering, “as how?” But God, you just told me that the battle is not mine, it’s yours. Why do I have to go against them? Why do I have to go stand there? If it’s yours, then I should be sleeping in my house and you will go and fight them. I shouldn’t have to step out, dress up for war, march in a procession, or lift my sword to fight. But this is not always the case.

When Israel was facing the Red Sea and God told them to be still, they didn’t have to fight Pharaoh, they just moved on forward, and Pharoah and his horsemen drowned. Sometimes, we hear “Be still, I will fight” and we don’t wait to know if we are to just do nothing, move on or go down and confront them. We think that doing nothing is always what it means. However, we can march forward, draw our swords, dress for war and still be still.

Your Role In Stillness

For Jehoshaphat and Judah, their stillness meant that they had a role to play. God has promised you greatness but you have a role to play. A financial breakthrough is God’s decree over your life but you have a role to play.

However, you need courage to play your part. Yes, you believe God’s got it but thinking of showing up can make you afraid and that’s why God said to them the same thing He is saying to you today, “do not fear” The Bible says, “after doing all that there is to stand, stand therefore”. Standing is your role in that victory.

Beloved, the battle is the Lord’s but you may still have to go and speak before that congregation. You may still have to appear in court and to defend yourself. The only way you know for sure what is required is even you ask Him. “Father, is this the stillness where I actually need to do absolutely nothing? Or is this the one where we have to partner together for victory?” Because either way you’re going to need faith and courage.

May the Lord give you the wisdom to discern which is which. But most importantly, may the Lord give you the courage to do what you need to do, even when he wants you to do nothing. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
