IT IS WELL

  • DAY 240
  • FAITH FILE: SHUNNAMITE WOMAN
  • SCRIPTURES: 2 KINGS 4

“And the child grew. Now it happened one day that he went out to his father, to the reapers. And he said to his father, “My head, my head!” So he said to a servant, “Carry him to his mother.” When he had taken him and brought him to his mother, he sat on her knees till noon, and then died. Then she called to her husband, and said, “Please send me one of the young men and one of the donkeys, that I may run to the man of God and come back.” So he said, “Why are you going to him today? It is neither the New Moon nor the Sabbath.” And she said, “It is well.””

‭‭II Kings‬ ‭4‬:‭18‬-‭20‬, ‭22‬-‭23‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

As painful as it is to want something and not have it, it’s a lot worse to have that thing and lose it. Because when you didn’t have it, you didn’t have a taste of what it was like. All you had were fantasies and maybe hope but when you’ve had it and tasted what it feels like to lose it prematurely hurts.

The Shunammite woman was okay with not having a son until Elisha’s prophecy gave her the one thing she thought she was never going to have. She had the baby, she was called mom. But before he is old enough to be called a man, he dies. There is her child lying dead in her arms. In the midst of this kind of pain, the last thing you feel is well. The depth of the pain can cloud your heart and overwhelm you so much that you feel like everything has just gone from good to worse, or from bad to terrible. You cannot see anything well in your life so you will not say that it is well. Yet, the truth is, it is well with you. This woman knew that although her son was not alive at the moment, as long as there was still hope for help, it was well with her.

Declare It Anyway

Beloved, I know what it’s like to go through loss. And I don’t know if you’ve lost somebody, but I’m sure that you’ve had seasons in your life where it seemed like you lost something. You lost an opportunity, strength, relationship, one thing or the other. Or seasons when things didn’t go as you planned. And it may have felt a little bit tough for you to believe that everything is going to be okay. However, our confession should not be the visible fact of our situation, but the truth of His word. So let the weak say I am strong and let the poor say I am rich (Joel 3:10). Say to the righteous that it is well with them (Isaiah 3:10).

So whatever pain you’re going through, have the faith and the courage of this woman, to declare, it is well. Maybe you will use those same words, it is well. Maybe you will say, I’m okay. My friends and I say “I’m going to be okay” when we can’t find the courage to say it is well. We feel overwhelmed but we refuse to declare how we feel, we trust that God will make us okay. Let your confession align with the truth of God’s word and your faith and belief in who He is. Because the truth is, all things work together for your good. I know it’s going to sound insensitive to say that the loss that you’re feeling right now is going to work out for your good, but it will. And sometime in the future, the pain will not be so devastating.

So how about you start to confess ahead of that time that it is well with you, that your life is not going to shatter because you went through a difficult season. It is well with you; It is well with your house. It is well with your heart. In Jesus’ name.

Shalom.
