IT’S NOT THE SAME

  • DAY 235
  • FEAR FILE: SAMSON
  • TEXT: JUDGES 16

When Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, “Come up once more, for he has told me all his heart.” So the lords of the Philistines came up to her and brought the money in their hand. Then she lulled him to sleep on her knees, and called for a man and had him shave off the seven locks of his head. Then she began to torment him, and his strength left him. And she said, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” So he awoke from his sleep, and said, “I will go out as before, at other times, and shake myself free!” But he did not know that the LORD had departed from him.

JUDGES 16:18-20

Samson finally told Delilah the secret of his power and while he was asleep, Delilah shaves his head and calls the Philistines. As she always did she shouts, “Samson the Philistines are coming.” And he got up to shake himself free like before, thinking he still had strength. Not knowing that the strength that he had had gone from him. He was hoping to give the Philistines a run for their money like he did before. But something had changed. He forgot that moments ago he compromised something that was sacred and threw his pearls to the swine. Something changed and he was not aware.

Sometimes you don’t feel different when things change. It’s like when a branch is cut off a tree, it takes a while for the leaves to change color. At first you can’t tell the difference, but with time, anything dead inside will be dead outside too. A lot of couples wake up at the verge of their sinking marriage and wonder what happened, something changed and they had no idea what, when or why. Somehow they failed to notice when they started to neglect what mattered and down the marriage came crashing.

Don’t Neglect It

The things that make your life work are important and should not be neglected. Things like prayer and studying the Word of God give you courage and power. Don’t expect to continue walking in courage and faith if you neglect these things. Preserve and protect what makes you who you are.

Beloved, I want to encourage you to be intentional about the things that make you who you are. The things that give you faith and confidence are nonnegotiable, you should not despise them and expect to remain the same. Because the moment you despise them, you lose access to use them. And if you lose access to use them, you lose your relevance.

So I pray the Lord to gives you the grace to honor the things in your life that need to be honored and to uphold the things in your life that needs to be upheld.

Shalom.

  1. This message kept me thinking, where I should have been if I didn’t give up on my study life, after a calamitous event I experienced. But thank God I have the opportunity to go back to who I used to be.
