KING SAUL

A FEARFUL KING

  • DAY 159
  • FEAR FILE: KING SAUL
  • SCRIPTURES: 1 SAMUEL 10:20-24

So Samuel brought all the tribes of Israel before the LORD, and the tribe of Benjamin was chosen by lot. Then he brought each family of the tribe of Benjamin before the LORD, and the family of the Matrites was chosen. And finally Saul son of Kish was chosen from among them. But when they looked for him, he had disappeared! So they asked the LORD, “Where is he?” And the LORD replied, “He is hiding among the baggage.” So they found him and brought him out, and he stood head and shoulders above anyone else. Then Samuel said to all the people, “This is the man the LORD has chosen as your king. No one in all Israel is like him!” And all the people shouted, “Long live the king!”

Interesting, isn’t it? How the most talented people are the most plagued by fear. It seems that the moment demand is placed on their gifting, they disappear. So it is with Saul in our text today. Let’s look at a quick backstory.

Anointed But Hiding

As we saw in our text yesterday, God was going to give Israel the king they wanted. He asked Samuel to anoint Saul, the son of Kish, for this position, which he did. God confirmed this calling to Saul with signs. Then Samuel returns home and calls the people together so that they could witness God’s selection with their eyes. When it became clear to all that Saul was chosen, they couldn’t find the guy. The anointed king was hiding. He wanted no part of that king business.

He was the tallest, most handsome, and most desirable of all the men in his day, not to mention that he was chosen and anointed by God. One look at him and you’d say, “Long live the king!” but he didn’t see himself this way. He didn’t see anything kingly in himself. Does that sound familiar? We saw the same thing with Gideon and Moses. Is this true with you too? Are you so terrified of your coronation that you rather hide? You are called to speak to the world, but there you are hiding behind that excuse. forgetting that nobody lights a candle to keep it hidden.

Countless times I get messages from people in hiding, you can tell that their lives are far from fulfilling. They tell me how they want to come out but are still too afraid. God told them something years ago, months ago, weeks ago, but they chose to ignore God than step out in faith. We don’t do that here. Over here we step out on a word, we move at the sound of go, and we don’t have time to second guess God. we don’t have the capital to invest in hiding. Over here? We muuuve!

Not Close Enough

The amazing thing is where he hid. I’m sure there were more glamourous hiding places, but he chose a supply closet close to the place of his coronation because something in Him knew that there was a king in him. He hid there until he was brought out and crowned anyway. Today, God has sent me to drag you out of that hiding place. We are crowning you by force! That stronghold of fear that has you hiding is broken now in Jesus’ name.

Beloved, take a good look at your fine, tall (greater is He that is in you, so you’re tall, period), talented, unique, anointed self. Does that look like what should be hiding behind the supplies? All that oil on your head is not for a wig, Sis, it’s for a purpose. Bro, that oil is not for hats, caps, or your ego, it’s for a crown. Come out of fear and stand tall. This is the season for the crowning of Kings.

Say this with boldness, “I’m done hiding. I am anointed for this!

Shalom.
